Teacher Appreciation Week at BASIS Independent Schools

Teacher Appreciation Week is observed by many schools across the country during the week of May 3 – 7. Across our network of schools, we wanted to show our teachers (and other school staff members) our appreciation and gratitude for everything they do to make our schools the outstanding educational communities they are.

From the moment teachers entered the campus, signs and artwork greeted them outside. The Parent Community Association at BASIS Independent McLean did an outstanding job of welcoming teachers and staff with colorful and creative signage!

Snacks, treats, and (of course) coffee were a common theme across all campuses. BASIS Independent Manhattan teachers and staff enjoyed a sweet (and salty) reward when families sent pizza and a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream stand to school. Educators at BASIS Independent Brooklyn also enjoyed a Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck on campus. At BASIS Independent Fremont, teachers and staff enjoyed new snacks daily, and for Friday movie night parents assembled “movie kits” for each person, including snacks, wine, and other fun goodies.

Every day of the week at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley included a different mini-event or small gift. Monday was a day of appreciative notes from school administrators. Tuesday brought Door Dash gift cards to all faculty and staff. Wednesday satisfied the need for caffeine with coffee for all staff, while Thursday provided lunch for those who were interested in sampling items from a new lunch vendor. A Friday evening Happy Hour wrapped up the week at a nearby outside patio.

At BASIS Independent McLean, the Parent Community Association made their appreciation known with yogurt parfaits, a wide range of snacks and treats, and catered lunch throughout the week.

BASIS Independent Online Head of School Toby Walker shared these heartfelt words with teachers involved in our online efforts:

“As a parent of a child who has been online all year I know first-hand how important teachers are at times like this. For families like ours, teachers have been a true inspiration. My son’s teachers have been educators, entertainers, friendly faces, guiding voices, and truly meaningful, important people. Teachers like you have helped students all year to learn new things and to work together. You have helped to bridge gaps, to make connections, and to foster understanding. In doing so, you have brought some certainty and comfort in the face of so much confusion.”

We appreciate and celebrate every member of our faculty and staff across our network of schools. Our schools could not achieve the outstanding results we see every year without your hard work and dedication. Thank you!
